Relearning Trust: How I Finally Heard My Body’s Wisdom Again
For most of my life, I lived from the neck up.
I made “logical” decisions. I followed rules. I listened to everyone but myself.
And somewhere along the way, I stopped trusting my body altogether.
I called it intuition once…
But the world called it irrational.
I called it inner knowing…
But the church called it rebellion.
I called it discomfort…
But I was told to smile through it.
So I did.
Until the panic attacks.
Until the burnout.
Until the chronic exhaustion I couldn’t explain.
🌿 Then I read The Wisdom of Your Body by Hillary McBride.
And something shifted.
This book gave voice to a truth I’ve known deep down but was too afraid to claim:
👉 Your body is not a burden.
👉 Your body is not your enemy.
👉 Your body is your home.
McBride writes about interoception—the science of sensing internal cues like hunger, safety, emotion, intuition—and how many of us lose this skill after trauma, gaslighting, or spiritual conditioning.
Reading this, I finally understood:
I wasn’t broken.
I had just been taught not to trust myself.
🧠 The Science Behind Why We Stop Listening
Psychologists call it externalized authority conditioning—when we learn to prioritize outside rules over internal truth.
And when you stop listening to your body long enough?
You feel:
-
Numb
-
Anxious
-
Disconnected
-
Like your life doesn’t fit anymore
This wasn’t just emotional. It was neurological.
Studies show that suppressed interoception leads to chronic stress, decision fatigue, and even dissociation.

🔄 How I Started Trusting My Body Again
It didn’t start with a lightning bolt.
It started with one breath.
I began asking:
-
What does “yes” feel like in my body?
-
What does “no” feel like?
-
What hurts—and where?
-
What am I pretending not to feel?
I used the LTS Journal: Know to track tiny cues.
I used tools from the Quantum Leap Course to rebuild safety in my nervous system.
I stopped outsourcing my truth.
And slowly, my body started whispering again.
