Rewriting the Rules: Why Changing Your Mind Is a Sign of Growth, Not Failure

🔁 Rewriting the Rules: Why Changing Your Mind Is a Sign of Growth, Not Failure

Because changing your mind doesn’t mean you’re lost—it means you’re learning.

Let’s begin here:

If you’ve ever felt ashamed for pivoting—
For quitting the thing that drained you
For saying no to the path you once said yes to
For realizing what used to feel right… doesn’t anymore—

You’re not inconsistent.
You’re evolving.

Real growth doesn’t mean sticking to one version of yourself forever.
It means getting honest about what’s no longer aligned—and being brave enough to shift.

🧠 Who Told You That Change = Failure?

Most of us were taught that commitment is sameness.

That once you pick a belief system, a career, a relationship, a dream—you’re supposed to double down.
To make it work.
To stay the course—even if that course leads you somewhere you don’t want to be.

We inherited rules like:

  • Finish what you start

  • Don’t make people uncomfortable

  • Consistency means never changing

  • If it worked for others, it should work for you

But staying loyal to something you’ve outgrown isn’t strength.
It’s survival.

And you weren’t meant to survive your life.
You’re meant to live it.

💔 My Story: Letting Go of Unspoken Rules

For a long time, I believed I had to see everything through—even when it no longer made sense.

I stayed in roles, systems, and identities that felt heavy.

I thought being strong meant being still.

I thought walking away meant failure.

But slowly… I started to ask the question that changed everything:

“Whose rules are these?”

And the answer?
They weren’t mine.

So I let go.
I redefined.
I gave myself permission to become the kind of woman who doesn’t need to justify her evolution.

🧬 The Psychology of Permission

In psychology, there’s a term called self-concept clarity—your ability to clearly understand who you are right now.

Not who you used to be.
Not who other people expect you to be.
But who you are—today.

The healthiest people?
They don’t stay the same.
They re-author.
They edit.
They evolve.

You are not betraying your past self by growing.
You are honoring her by refusing to stay in a story she’s outgrown.

🌱 You Are Allowed to Change…

  • Your career path

  • Your spiritual beliefs

  • Your friendships

  • Your boundaries

  • Your parenting style

  • Your dreams

  • Your timeline

  • Your entire identity

Not because you’re lost.
But because you finally see yourself clearly.

And clarity is not chaos.
It’s peace.

📝 Try This: The Rule Rewrite Ritual

Ask yourself:

“What’s one rule I’ve been living by that no longer feels aligned?”
“Where did that rule come from?”
“Do I want to carry it into my next chapter?”

If the answer is no—let it go.

📓 The LTS Journal: Know has prompts to walk you through this process without shame.

🌱 And if you’re ready to not just journal through it—but live into it,
the Quantum Leap Course was built to help you step into the next version of you.

💬 What Rule Are You Rewriting?

I’d love to know.
What identity are you shedding?
What old truth are you releasing?

DM me on Instagram @lovethyselfies or drop your story in the comments of today’s post.

Let’s normalize changing our minds.
Let’s make room for softer timelines, truer identities, and rewritten rules.

Because you’re not behind.
You’re just realigning—with love, on purpose, in your own time.

Melissa
